Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

At Mount Lewis Infants School, SRE is delivered on Wednesdays from 1.30-2.00pm. All Scripture teachers hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Scripture classes are supervised by school staff.

On enrolment parents/carers indicate a preference for Religious Education. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to the office, in writing.

The following SRE classes are offered at Mount Lewis Infants School:

ISLAMIC SRE

Islamic Special Religious Education is offered through the Islamic Council of NSW. It offers students in public schools the opportunity to learn about Islam within school time, teaching them the basic foundations common to all Muslims.

For more information on the curriculum please visit: Islamic Scripture Classes

CATHOLIC SRE

Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Diocese of Sydney. Catholic SRE teachers (also known as Catechists) are authorised by the local Catholic Parish of St Jerome Punchbowl, and trained by the Diocese of the Catholic Church.

For more information on the curriculum please visit: Catholic Curriculum Resources

NON-SCRIPTURE

Families are welcome to indicate a preference for their child/children not to attend Scripture classes, on their school enrolment form. During the time that SRE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities, such as reading.
